Mob Mentality
The methods of thinking that people use when part of a group are completely different than the methods that they use as individuals. This is why there is the phrase “mob mentality,” and why people talk about lemmings and take advertising classes: if people get the idea that other people are doing something, they will often do it themselves. That is why there is the saying, “monkey see, monkey do.” A lot of what humans do, particularly when learning as infants, is by copying what someone else is doing.
As they were drawn to like stories about independent cowboys, Europeoids prefer to believe that they have mature thought processes; they often don’t like to believe that they behave this way. They prefer to believe that they choose how to believe through an exacting, independent thought process.
Advertisers may act like this isn’t true, but they know it is true. Year after year, creating the appearance of consensus is a winner. Implying that everyone is chewing Gum W, reading Book X, watching Show Y, or voting for Person Z is extremely potent. Europeoids behave that way--they are led by crowds.
For example, young men can be targeted with advertisements which imply that drinking a certain brand of beer will lead them to spend time enjoying the company of many pretty young women. The advertisement will show that the young men will drink the beer in company of many interesting friends in good clothes, and meet many attractive young women.
In fact, though, the money spent on the beer will cause the young man to have less available for good clothes, good cars, etc. He is more likely to become fat, and drink his beer alone, instead of laughing by a pool where several pretty young women are hinting they will soon undress for him to watch. The disconnect between the image portrayed in advertising and reality is profound.
...and yet, advertisements continue to work. Why? Because Europeoids really, truly have mob mentality. Jesusianism itself is based upon this; the church is so powerful that it compels Europeoids to say they believe very strongly--even to die for--abjectly ridiculous things.
Europeoids also defend their thought process by claiming that, and moreover believing that—in the privacy of their own minds, truly believing that—they make decisions themselves. If you have ever watched a Europeoid decide to do a popular thing that you know that person does not actually like, you know how this works. People will spend their entire lives, and very passionately defend, something that is entirely ridiculous merely because they believe some group of humans thinks so. They will chew certain gum, smoke certain cigarettes, drink certain beer, and so forth. Much advertising uses this.
Remember how we discussed that people evolved to get that it was intelligent to avoid the partially eaten poisoned fruit by the dead people, and to feel it was safe to be where everyone was alive and eating fruit rather than mysteriously vanished? This was a powerful thing. People really want to be part of the group. This is why ridiculous things, such as “there is an invisible sky rabbi who created everything with a big bang” get support.
This can be quite serious. The “lemming” metaphor is not a stretch. People can commit suicide, martyr themselves, over the desire to reinforce a consen.
Why? Mob mentality. People can act like that in groups as small as a few friends or as members of an international community of people they’ve never met.
What happened a million years ago when an Australopithecus was all alone? Well, he might’ve been killed by some bear, but he also might’ve been killed by other pre-people. Or robbed of his stuff and then starved to death as a result. Being a member of a group is very important. People have evolved for millions of years to be this way. This is used to sell gum, cars, stupid outdoorsy trucks that never actually drive off road, and so forth. Informed people know that creating an appearance of consensus can create a real consensus. People are so driven to be part of what they see as a group they can create a real group by joining the “group” in such large numbers that other people want to join that group.
Jesina reminder: did you know, there was once this really special rabbi who was really nice? He was really nice and helped some people, just hung out with dudes all the time, and said the old laws (such as those against sodomy) were gone. He also said that Rome should stop having a government, but then when the Romans got mad at that he said I mean He said it was good to share your stuff and leave big things to the person in charge of Rome. They killed Him. But, He foiled them, because He came back to life and went to the sky. Oh, and like a couple thousand years later or something they found out He had a girlfriend He never mentioned so there is nothing to worry about there. This amazing rabbi was a zombie and then a sky-person. Give us some money now so we can tell people about Him and they can have free food so they see how great He is.
As we were saying before interrupted by Jesina, that story actually got an enormous group of people to say they believed in it for a long time. Many still do! That is how mob mentality works. If you told some story about a bloke who was really nice and lived in the clouds/space/wherever and asked for money from some of these people, they wouldn’t give you money or say they believed in the bloke. They’d hit you, or just want to, and not be around you any more! However, if you had some big buildings, maybe a layered robe, and a large group of people saying that nice bloke was great, you’d have a chance. In the privacy of their own heads, the people you told might have the mental strength to realize that your story was utter nonsense and that you were just using it to get money. But, if you approached with a giant consensus, you’d access their brains differently and have a good chance at getting them to say they believed you.
That is how mob mentality works. Monkey see, monkey do.
People are very defensive of the mob. If someone dares challenge the mob’s beliefs, most people will hate, argue, and depending on circumstances maybe fight and/or kill to stop the dissension. They feel that they need the mob’s ridiculous stories. And they do—people popular with the mob are more likely to accumulate stuff and mate, e.g. to have more access to resources. As the body does not “know” if the female is on drugs designed to stifle quickening or prevent the union of a spermatozoa with an egg, the one who partakes can feel fulfilled and triumphant even though not being so.
Knowledge of how mob mentality works is how evil can use fake stories to trick people to get resource. A person can recognize a monster when seeing that someone is trying to use mob mentality instead of evidence to get a thing believed.
